If you were baptized as a Catholic, you are always a Catholic. Many people fear, espcially if they have been away from the Church for a long time, that they are no longer eligible to receive the Last Rites, Anointing and Viaticum (food for the journey) when they are near the time of death. This is not true. All baptized Catholics have the right to receive sacraments provided they are well disposed to receive them. "Well disposed" means that they have an open heart and willingness to make a good confession of their faults and return to full communion with the Church. In less than 30 minutes, someone who has been away from the Church can be reconciled and returned to full status.
