The Catholicism Series is a major undertaking to tell the Catholic story. For too long the Catholic story has been told from the outside. This series is a chance for us to see the beauty, intelligence, and holiness of the Catholic Faith. Fr. Robert Barron is our guide on this journey to the heart of the Faith. Join us at St. Mary's as we delve into what makes us Catholic and what makes being Catholic great.
How It Works
The Catholicism Project is a 10 DVD series. We will take one topic (DVD) a month and offer it on 4 different days of the week in a month. You can move around from one day to the next (ex. you don't always have to attend Mondays). We will watch the video, take a break, and have a dialogue for those that wish to stay. Each video is about 50 minutes long followed by a speaker. Each session will be an hour and a half to two hours depending on those who attend. If you can only stay for the video, please do so. This is for you to appreciate and fall in love with our Catholic Faith. There are study sessions available for those who want to dig deeper into this study. These study groups will work through the optional study materials which are designed to accompany the Catholicism project. There is a $30 registration fee to cover the cost of the materials. The study groups will meet one week after the “movie night” to discuss the material for that month’s topic. See the schedule for dates.

Happy Are We: The Teachings of Jesus
The revelation of Jesus as God is accompanied by a stunning invitation to a unique new way of life, explained in the teachings of Jesus. To every generation, the words of Jesus have proven fascinating, disorienting, sometimes confounding, deeply transformative, and always unforgettable.
Father Barron highlights the Beatitudes, the path of non-violence and lessons of forgiveness, care for the poor and our relationship with God as presented in the parables. Jesus' teachings are illuminated during Fr. Barron’s pilgrimages to Poland, Germany, Spain and New York City. Commentaries at these sites also show how the Catholic Church is a living culture, which gives witness to the inviolable dignity of the human person.
March 2012 – Tues 6th 9 AM & 7 PM, Monday Feb. 12 & Sun Feb. 18 6:30 PM
The Ineffable Mystery of God: That Which Nothing Greater Can Be Thought
Father Barron considers St. Anselm’s description of God as “that than which nothing greater can be thought,” and goes on to explain St. Thomas Aquinas’ arguments which support the claim that God truly exists. He also speaks from the Catholic tradition about the nature of God and the challenging question of evil and the existence of God.
To provide a vision of the ineffable majesty and mystery of God, Father Barron invites us to the heights of the Sinai desert and makes his way to mysterious Istanbul, walks the glittering streets of Paris and then captivates the viewer with the glories of the Sistine Chapel in Rome.
